It was the year Barack Obama took office, Britain entered recession, MPs’ expenses were exposed to public scrutiny, Iranians protested after a flawed presidential election, Michael Jackson died and the Copenhagen climate summit ended in recriminations and a flawed deal.
Alastair Dant and myself worked on this for the Guardian. Nice to do anything full screen. Each thumbnail is a day the biggest story of that day, Nice Idea and works well apart from I did not do the logo in the top right….

‘PROGECT UNICORN’ AKA The Guardian’s IPhone application.
BREIF: To produce a wide range of icons for the Guardians app, everything from breaking news to books and obituaries.
ANALYSIS: Some subjects were more difficult illustrate than others, the size was an issue too 29px x 29px is quite tight. I also would have liked to have had a bit more time to work on them, maybe a day or so, sadly we work to daily deadlines and graphics for the newspaper/web have priority.
So I came up with over 100 icon variations, a few I wasn’t at all happy with but managed to make it though.
On reflection I would like to re-work a few of them, maybe when the first update is out I will had the chance to get them done.
My personal favorite is the microchip and the one I think is horrendous and should never been seen or used is the one that looks like buildings.
Personally the bar chart and line chart are better for the business icon – they are infinitely better at illustrating the business section.
A great project to work on, a little more tweaking time would have been nice.
Application release date is December 15th, or so I’ve been told.

BREIF: No breif, An idea taken from work I did for the Guardians world fact files, I produced a poster out of all the silhouette with capital cities, and a few majour cities also the scale so that you kind of get an idea of how big these counties actually are.
THOUGHTS: Would like to get this printed with the really bright green as shown in the images, as of yet I’ve not looked for a printers..
ANALYSIS: Well worth the work and looks real nice as a poster. Images to come.
